Experience
Vision for ages 20-40 may be limited by astigmatism, as well as nearsightedness and farsightedness, and can be corrected by surgery. LASIK surgery is the most common for this age range, and has a quick recovery time for younger patients. PRK is another option for vision correction. This procedure is ideal for patients with dry eyes or thin corneas. Unlike LASIK, it has a slower recovery time.
Worsening of nearsightedness happens often in the 40-60 age range. These patients can opt for a few different types of elective procedures, such as Refractive Lens Exchange, LASIK, and PRK Refractive eye surgery can help correct this problem by reshaping the cornea (the clear outer layer of the eye) so that light is properly focused onto the retina, resulting in clearer vision. PRK is a type of refractive surgery that involves removing the outermost layer of the cornea and then reshaping the underlying tissue with a laser.
Patients within the 60-80 age range have a couple options for vision correction. Cataract Surgery and Clear Lens Exchange. In addition to cataract removal, there are speciality lenses that can be implanted. Depending on what vision issue needs to be corrected, is what will determine what lens is a good option. Some examples are PanOptix Trifocal, Crystalens, and TORIC lens.
