Financing Options for Eye Surgery

Standard cataract surgery is covered by Medicare and most insurance plans. Premium lens implants, astigmatism correction and laser-assisted surgery are out-of-pocket upgrades — and for those, Insight Eye Center offers CareCredit and Alphaeon Credit financing, so the cost can be spread into monthly payments.

What does insurance cover, and what costs extra?

Cataract surgery with a standard lens implant, glaucoma treatment and medical eye exams are covered by Medicare and most insurance plans, subject to your deductible and coinsurance. What insurance does not cover are the elective upgrades: premium lens implants (toric and extended-range), astigmatism correction, and laser-assisted surgery. Those are the costs patients most often finance.

Before you decide on an upgrade, the office gives you the cost in writing, and Dr. Rom tells you plainly whether it is worth it for your eyes. Many patients choose standard surgery and are very happy with it.
