Meet our staff

Behind Dr. Michael Rom is a small, long-serving staff who handle the parts of your care that happen outside the exam room — the phone call, the work-up, the insurance and the surgical scheduling. Most of them have been doing this for a decade or more, and at Insight Eye Center you see the same faces each time.

The team

Who will you see at Insight Eye Center?

Insight Eye Center is a small practice, so the same few people look after you from the first phone call through to the last follow-up visit: Elizabeth Wagner, the surgical director; Julie Wichert, the lead ophthalmic technician; Morgan Howell at the front desk; and Dr. Michael Rom for every examination and operation.

Your visit

Who does what during your visit?

Morgan takes your call and checks you in. Julie works you up in the exam lane — history, vision, pressures and measurements — before Dr. Rom examines you and discusses what he finds. If surgery is the answer, Elizabeth takes over the scheduling, the insurance and the paperwork.

The surgeon

Who performs the surgery?

Dr. Michael E. Rom, a board-certified ophthalmologist, owns Insight Eye Center and is its only surgeon. He examines you himself at the first visit, performs the operation, and sees you afterward — the staff on this page support that care rather than stand in for it.

FAQ

Common questions about the staff

Short answers to the questions patients ask most often. For anything specific to your eyes, ask Dr. Rom at your visit or call the office at (440) 286-1188.

Who will I speak to when I call the office?

Morgan Howell answers the phone and handles scheduling, check-in and general questions. Call (440) 286-1188 Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, or use the request form on this page and the office will call you back.

Who works me up before I see Dr. Rom?

Julie Wichert, the practice's lead ophthalmic technician, takes your history and measures your vision, eye pressure and the other readings Dr. Rom needs. She has worked in the field for over 20 years.

Who do I ask about the cost of surgery and my insurance?

Elizabeth Wagner, the surgical director. She goes through Dr. Rom's recommendation, what your insurance covers and what you would pay yourself, before a surgery date is set.

Will I see the same people at each visit?

In most cases, yes. Insight Eye Center is a small single-surgeon practice rather than a large clinic, so the staff you meet at your first visit are the ones who look after you through surgery and follow-up.
